Equipment

  • Large mixing bowls
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk
  • Deep frying pan or heavy pot
  • Kitchen tongs
  • Plate or tray
  • Paper towels

Ingredients

  • 6 pieces chicken legs, thighs, or breasts
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 3 cups vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Step 1:

  • Place the chicken pieces in a large bowl. Add buttermilk and eggs, then mix well until the chicken is fully coated. Cover and let the chicken rest for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator to help develop flavor and tenderness.

Step 2:

  • In another bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything together evenly so the seasoning spreads throughout the flour coating.

Step 3:

  • Remove each chicken piece from the buttermilk mixture and allow excess liquid to drip off. Place the chicken into the seasoned flour and coat completely. Press the flour gently onto the chicken to create a thicker crispy layer.

Step 4:

  • Pour 3 cups of oil into a deep frying pan or pot. Heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C). Make sure the oil is hot before adding the chicken to achieve a crunchy coating.

Step 5:

  • Carefully place the coated chicken pieces into the hot oil. Fry in batches for about 10–12 minutes per side, depending on the size of the chicken pieces. Cook until the outside becomes golden brown and the inside reaches a safe temperature.

Step 6:

  • Remove the fried chicken from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate or cooling rack. Allow it to rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy the crispy chicken with your favorite sides and sauces.
