Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Wooden spoon or silicone spatula
  • Measuring Cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • Small bowl
  • Glass jar or airtight container

Ingredients

  • 1 cup tomato ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ¼ cup finely diced onion
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup finely diced fresh red chili peppers
  • 2 cloves garlic minced (about 1 tablespoon)
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

Step 1:

  • Heat the olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for about 3–4 minutes until soft and translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and chopped red chili peppers, then cook for another minute until fragrant.

Step 2:

  • Pour the tomato ketchup and apple cider vinegar into the saucepan. Stir well until everything is evenly combined.

Step 3:

  • Add the Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly so the sugar dissolves completely.

Step 4:

  • Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer gently for 15–20 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and allow the flavors to develop.

Step 5:

  • Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning if needed. Add a little extra brown sugar for sweetness or a splash of vinegar for extra tanginess. For a smoother texture, blend the sauce with an immersion blender or regular blender after it has cooled slightly.

Step 6:

  • Remove the sauce from the heat and let it cool completely. Transfer it to a clean glass jar or airtight container and refrigerate before serving for the best flavor.
