Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Measuring Cups
  • knife
  • Cutting board
  • Blender or masher

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Blueberries fresh or frozen
  • 1 jalapeño pepper finely diced Jalapeño pepper (or 2–3 chipotle peppers in adobo for smoky flavor)
  • 1/2 cup Ketchup
  • 1/4 cup Apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp molasses or honey
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  • Heat a saucepan over medium heat. Add the blueberries, chopped jalapeño, and apple cider vinegar. Let everything cook slowly until the blueberries begin to soften and release their juices.
  • Once the fruit has started breaking down, stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, molasses (or honey), Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well so all the flavors combine evenly.
  • Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer gently for about 15–20 minutes. Stir from time to time while the blueberries cook down and become soft and jam-like.
  • If you prefer a smoother sauce, lightly mash it with a spoon or blend it until it reaches your desired texture.
  • Continue cooking for another 3–5 minutes until the sauce thickens and turns glossy. Remove from heat and allow it to cool before serving.
