Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Measuring Cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Wooden spoon or silicone spatula
  • Small glass jar or airtight container (optional, for smoother sauce)

Ingredients

  • cups mixed berries about 260 g (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, or cherries)
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar 60 ml / 60 g
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup 160 g
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 15 g
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika 5 g
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder 1.5 g
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder 1.5 g
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt 5 g
  • ½ teaspoon rosemary fresh chopped or dried (0.5 g)
  • ½ teaspoon thyme fresh or dried (0.5 g)
  • ½ teaspoon oregano fresh or dried (0.5 g)

Instructions

Step 1:

  • Add the mixed berries, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, kosher salt, rosemary, thyme, and oregano to a medium saucepan. Stir everything together until well combined.

Step 2:

  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Cook for about 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the berries soften and release their juices.

Step 3:

  • Mash the berries with a spoon or potato masher for a rustic texture. For a smoother sauce, blend the mixture with an immersion blender or transfer it carefully to a blender. Strain through a fine mesh sieve if you prefer a silky finish.

Step 4:

  • Return the sauce to the saucepan and continue simmering for another 8–10 minutes. Stir frequently until the sauce thickens to a rich barbecue consistency.

Step 5:

  • Remove from the heat and allow the sauce to cool completely. Transfer to a clean glass jar or airtight container and refrigerate before serving. The flavors become even better after a few hours of chilling.
